Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Serbia V.Nedopas and the Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society of the Republic of Serbia P.Markovic opened the exhibition «Independent Ukraine. History in persons».
On the 18th of July, 2011 on the eve of celebrating the 20th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, the official ceremony of opening exhibition «Independent Ukraine. History in persons» by the Ukrainian photo reporter Volodymyr Repik took place in Ethnographic Museum.
The representatives of the Serbian government, diplomatic corp, cultural elite of Serbia, Ukrainian Diaspora, and media took part in the event.
The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Serbia V.Nedopas and the Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society of the Republic of Serbia P.Markovic.
In his address Ambassador V.Nedopas pointed out the symbolic significance of the exhibition in this anniversary year for Ukraine as it illustrates in details the life of the Ukrainian people for 20 years of independence.
Minister P.Markovic underlined the importance of that exhibition in Serbia as it gives the Serbian people to learn something new about the history and nowadays life of Ukraine as well as to see similarities of our cultures. He said that «the camera can not lie. That’s why it shows the real picture of 20 years of Ukraine’s independence, its victories and tragic pages». The Minister also expressed hope for continuing the practice of holding such events in Serbia in the future.
The participants also have seen the video «Ukrainian cities, architecture and nature» as well as listened to the Ukrainian national songs performed by an ensemble of Ukrainian folk songs.
